Holiday Depression Remedies

Have you ever suffered from holiday depression?

As an immigrant living in America, I’ve felt lonely and depressed over many holidays. Actually, I felt that way when I was even living in my motherland, South Korea.

Holidays are a special time of the year, but also they are hard times of the year for many people. The weight of holiday depression can sometimes outweigh the holiday joy you had anticipated.

The past couples of years were the first time in my life that I can remember feeling grateful during the Holidays.

I finally found my holiday depression remedy in my 40’s.

There are many reasons for this. One of the biggest shifts was to practice my gratitude everyday by giving and sharing.

This Holiday season, I found a great way to practice my holiday giving at the Garden School Foundation.

Garden School Foundation is a beautiful organization, empowering kids and the community through hands-on education focused on gardening and cooking. Garden School Foundation is right in the meat of the bustling city of Los Angeles in-between a congested I-10 freeway, downtown skyscrapers and beneath some lingering smog.

In this grey concrete jungle, lies a magical 1.5 acre garden at the 24th Street Elementary School.

The majority of these Elementary School kids are minorities. Most of them live in apartments or houses without access to any green space in their daily lives. Their parents are busy, often having more than one job to provide for their family. These kids would not have a chance to experience the beauty and resilience of nature if this school garden wasn’t here for them.

This school garden provides a much-needed opportunity for the students, teachers, and community to experience the world. Not as harsh and unforgiving place, but as a nurturing and giving place.

Research shows that one in three children born today will have diabetes in their lifetime. But, it doesn’t have to be this way.

You and I can make a difference. Over the past few years, Government sponsorship has helped Garden School Foundation reach over 650 students at 24th Street School.  However, with many changes in the educational world and ever-waning Government funding, the Garden School Foundation has been left to find other means to fund itself.

The garden at 24th Street has been growing healthier futures since 2005 and needs your support today to continue this important work!

So, give what you can. Every dollar counts! If you are short on money, come out and volunteer, experience the nurturing power of growing together and eating together.

You’ll be surprised how holiday giving will cure your holiday depression.
